1. EPC contractor
The full name of EPC means a Contract for engineering, supply of technological equipment and project construction according to Government Decree 59/2015/ND-CP. In other words, in the same bidding package, the general contractor is responsible for all three work items: engineering (survey, technical design, construction supervision), procurement of materials and equipment, as well as complete installation of the project.
2. EPC stands for Engineering-Procurement and Construction. In which:
– Engineering means Design the installation
– Procurement means Supply of materials/Supply of technological equipment
– Construction means “Project construction”
3. Advantages of EPC contractor
– The EPC contractor form helps investor optimizes their investment costs, especially management costs by taking advantages of the general contractor’s technical qualification and management experience.
– The application of EPC contract form facilitates investor and brings many benefits to the investor. The investor will be under less administrative pressure as they only need to work with the general contractor or the main contractor. Despite the project’s various sub-contractors (design/consultant, suppliers, construction and installation contractors), the investor will be not directly concerned in the possibility of disputes between the parties as they are under the general contractor’s management and supervision. Moreover, the EPC general contractor is responsible for the operations of the subcontract packages, so the risk of coordinating the operation of these packages will be not in the investor’s charge.
– In addition, based on the scope of work in the contract with the general contractor, the main contractor, the investor can determine almost accurately the cost, the implementation time, the completion time and the construction quality of the project. The investor will not have to worry about fluctuations in the price of materials and labor in the market during the project implementation period as the contract price is usually fixed. It also makes the investor feel more assured because the EPC contract often specifies clear and specific conditions about the efficiency of operations, guarantees the operational efficiency of the plants and the effectiveness of the contract performance, and compensates for damage by any fault of the general contractor.
